To close or not to close my off-set mortgage

I have had an offset mortgage with Abbey National (now Santander) for about five years. After much effort I now have a zero balance, so it is costing me nothing. The mortgage still has a few more years to run and I no longer have need to borrow against it. From the point of view of my credit rating, should I keep the mortgage account open until expiry or close it down and declare myself debt free?

I would keep it open as a back up, cheap money if needed.0
