Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton, et al...

I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be a lot of threads for our little County Durham / Teesside and a fair amount of the offers / MSE tips+tricks / threads, etc are for people in the South, or living near a major city.

There are loads of discounts, loopholes, bargain basement stores and ways to save money in the North East and I thought it would be nice to start a thread to see how many ideas we can come up with!

Here's my initial contribution!

-Oodles Noodles, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough 20% off on production of Student ID (does not need to be NUS Extra)
-New Look (Darlington, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Teesside Park 10% off on production of Student ID (does not need to be NUS Extra)
-Odeon Darlington and Showcase Teesside Park both £2 off with Student ID, and for pensioners too
-Cucumber Hair Salon, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough 50% off certain weekdays, register for updates
-Full Circle Hair and Beauty, Thistle Hotel, Middlesbrough £10 for any half hour beauty treatment on a Monday until 8pm (plus you can take an hour beauty treatment and just pay £10
-Middlesbrough / Darlington College Hair and Beauty treatments for the General Public from around £3. Acrylic Nails £8 (full set), Hot Stone Massage £10 for example
-Middlesbrough / Darlington College ‘Garage’ Cheap prices for Services, Repairs, etc
-Darlington SAKS Academy, Duke Street; be a hair / beauty model for Saks, not always for students either 99% of the time it’s trained hairdressers learning new techniques, costs less than a tenner if your getting a colour, just to subsidise materials, pop in for a patch test and to register
-Dine Card for Darlington – apply free online at http://www.visitdarlington.com/site/dine/dine-members-card gives various discounts including 10% off in Meze Turkish Restaurant or Free After Dinner Coffees in Maxines Restaurant
-Unique Card for Darlington – apply free online at http://darlington.towntalk.co.uk gives various discounts which can be viewed here http://darlington.towntalk.co.uk/pdf/unique-offers.pdf my favourites? Free £25 voucher when you spend £100 at Leggs, The Cheese and Wine Shop in Clarks Yard 5% discount
-Happening Pass for Tees Valley – sign up free at http://www.visitteesvalley.co.uk/site/whats-hot/happening-pass/happening-pass-sign-up some absolutely great deals and discounts plus updates on what’s happening as the name suggests! Joe Rigs: 15% off the total bill in all Joe Rigatoni’s Restaurants. Offer applies after 7pm.
Offer also available on Take-aways collection only. Arc in Stockton - £1 off cinema tickets. 10% off in Borge, Stockton. The list goes on!

So that’s all I can think of just now, but it would be great to hear from people with their discounts!!!

Excellent contribution. I agree that this area is often overlooked.

I am looking for a reputable local firm (Middlesbrough/East Cleveland) to replace my kitchen worktops and would welcome any personal recommendations.

I'm not sure where you can get the work done, but what I can tell you is in Darlington they have a Magnet showroom - but it's also got a 'whoops' section where you can buy slight seconds for dirt cheap. I know that a couple of years ago my Dad got cupboard carcass's (spelling!?) along with doors, draw fronts and worktops, then did his kitchen himself - all in all it cost him a couple of hundred quid, not bad when the cheapest fitted kitchen from there costs around a grand! :) hope that helps, glad you like the thread xx

I just wondered if you could tell me any more about the Darlington Hair college?

I've tried the Saks one on Duke street, but they aren't doing colours at the moment as they have new students in.. and i'm looking for cheap highlights.

    Any info much appreciated :)
