A couple of weeks ago aldi had in a 5 million pixel digi camera, with mains charger, 512 memory card, USB cable, video recording capability with sound etc. Price.... £70 (think the brand was a Tevion?). She's currently snap happy in Australi with it and says it's awesome.

It's a crackin little camera and beat the recent currys £100 samsung deal into the distance. See if they have any left anywhere.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

Do you have any Nectar points? I've just sent off for a Olympus FE115 digital camera for half the usual number of points (11,600). I think it's eqivalent to £57.

The camera gets very good reviews and the cheapest I can find it anywhere else is £87 at Amazon. Other places have it at £145. By all accounts it's simple to use and takes great photos.

The Nectar offer ends at the end of this week.

Have a look at the Canon Powershot A620. I bought it from Amazon for about £160 2 weeks ago and I'm very pleased with it. Great functionality (which is very straightforward if you take the 1/2 hour at the start to get to know it), great speed (on and ready to take photo in less than a second, and a super swivel screen for those hard to reach shots and makes taking pictures of yourself and bubba much easier to frame. My favourite function so far is the ability to take an all black & white photo but maintain one particular colour. Makes for very simple but eye catching shots, especially (I'd imagine) with colourful baby stuff about.

The video is also of a very good quality and if you're happy with decent quality negates the need for a separate camcorder (video files are also in simple mpeg format which means you can easily write them to disc and play back on a dvd player).

Depends how 'small' you want, of course. It is not one of those credit-card-esque jobbies - it has more of a traditional 'camera' size and weight to it. Perhaps check it out in one of those shop things.
I am a cider drinker - like my father before me.

The best advice that I can give is check out this site.

    https://www.cameras.co.uk

He does reviews of simple point and shoot cameras and rates them out of 100. The reviews are very simple and aimed at complete novices to the camera world as he gives explanations of what each test is for. He also tells you the price you can buy it for. But then if you look at the side bar on the left at the top of the screen it shows you the price comparisons for that camera. Rankhour seems to be a great place to buy cameras but Amazon often has cheap deals and has free P&P.

The best camera's for taking fast pics are the Sony's so you might want to check those out. You can pick up the Sony DSC T5 for £144 at Pixmania at the moment and the Sony DSC T9 for £198 from ebuyer. Both are rated his 5th and 6th best cameras to so you can't go wrong.

    Cheers

    Stick to decent brands..

Canon, Nikon, Panasonic Lumix, Konica Minolta, (more expensive olympus and fuji can be good - the cheap ones are nasty though). oh and the pentax optio S (eg the s5 and s6) range is excellent too..

look on https://www.dpreview.com for reviews - excellent, but american site. Highly respected in the photography community.

Ebuyer have the pentax optio S6 at the moment for what seems like a good price, although I haven't checked the competition yet..

My sister is also looking for something but her absolute limit is £100 - the S6 is more than that
  • if I have £200, I will go for konica minolta Z6 or konica minolta Z3..
  • it's a hard one to call ...it's like saying i can spend up to £20k on a car ......when all you need is a runabout costing £7k.
  • Just a thing to look for with photography of children is, I've found, as little delay in possible from pressing the button to taking the picture - called shutter lag, I believe. I have loads of pictures of blurred little people, or the side of a head etc!

To this end, I have just bought a Fuji F11 for £135 online from Jessops inc free p+p(using a 10% discount code), which has little shutter lag, and also has, if the reviews are to be believed, good picture quality in low light situations, so during the winter months, birthday parties etc, hopefully the pictures will be more dynamic. It has yet to arrive, but I will update when I've taken some sample pictures.

    Hope this helps......

Can personally recommend the canon range, if you are looking for something small then go for the ixus i range which start for about £100.00. If you are an ebayer, canon have an outlet on that which also give the 12 month warrenty. Also dont get suckered into how many mega pixels the camera has, because it also needs to have a decent lens and processer inside the camera, 4 meg plus is fine. I did read recently (can't remember where) that canon and nikon are probably the best for for the point and shoot. So go for the canon ixus i5 or izoom and you wont be dissapointed. Which ever camera you buy get a decent leather case which will attach by velcro to belts or belt loops. Good luck.

The i5 has no optical zoom and is therefore by definition rubbish.

the izoom is good though.. canon are very good but always always get an optical zoom
