Why are Barclays not willing to help..?

  • Take heart, a couple of years ago I had a Sainsbury's Loan that was nearly paid off, I rang Sainsburys to see if they would advance additional borrowings based on my payment record, which was spotless. The turned my down, I wrote in to appeal, even sending in my credit file, but still no go.

It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me and started me on my road to being Debt Free, I would still be paying off that Loan Now!!, I even tried Ocean Finance yet again another NO! Who says there isn't any good luck:j :rotfl: , Can't even remember what I wanted the money for now!!

Anyway with Sainsbury's loan now paid off, both they and Ocean keeping contacting asking whether I want a Loan, now that I have wised up due to this website, its now my turn to say NO:p

I have had loans with barclays in the past. By increasing your borrowing from say £7.5k to £10k you would need to be approved for £17.5K. This is because you borrow an aditional £10k and then pay off the £7.5k.
I always found that every time my loans were reducing I would get an offer of a lower APR on the condition I borrowed a additional couple of thousand.

Thanks for all the kind help.
I do think that its all pointing to the fact I have a reasonably high overdraft which I use each month, although it does get cleared temporarily once I my salary goes in.I just wish I could make them see that a small loan of just £1500 will actually decrease my payments, making it more unlikely to fall behind and keep me loyal as I have an impeccable record with them for 20 years.
What concerns me though is the fact that my overdraft agreemant ends middle of next month and am worried they wont extend it leaving me to pay massive charges until I get it down to a reasonable amount.

I think a visit to my branch customer advisor is necessary here...

  • Is there anyway in which you could reduce your overdraft over the coming months? why don't you post a statement of accounts on the DFW Board, the good folks there will look it over and give you tips on reducing your budget so that you can reduce your overdraft, Its worth a try!!
