Buying Dettox (or similar) in bulk

Having several animals and a large home we find we use loads of Dettox to keep things clean and was wondering if it is possible to buy it in a large refill rather than having to buy the standard size dispenser each time which is not only expensive but very wasteful in terms of the amount of plastic involved in producing it. Any suggestions please ??.

Your local "janitorial supplies" in yellowpages will sell you bulk supplies of either branded or own-brand stuff for dilution. If you mean Dettol, according to wikipedia the active ingredient is chloroxylenol .

Would vinegar do, Postie, I use it to wipe down all the time. 13pence for 568ml from Tesco/Sainsbury. Smell goes away in a few minutes, and no worse than Dettol.

Vinegar is a dilute weak acid, it's not a detergent or a disinfectant.

But it does kill (at least some species of) bacteria; I am a fitness instructor and was recommended vinegar for kit that still smells after washing :o and I have to say it works brilliantly. I also got told on here that simple thin bleach is not harmful to the environment, maybe that would be an MSE option for the OP?

Some antibacterial sprays contain chemicals that are highly toxic to cats: Tesco brand definitely does, says so in the small print on the back. There are stories doing the rounds of kittens dying and adult cats getting sick due to being exposed to these products.

ETA: Dettox spray may be toxic to cats:

I don't use any dettol or bleach for the above reasons, it can kill animals which lick their fur after being in contact with it i.e on the floor.
