What is a company contributory pension worth?

Ok odd question, but I am basically clueless about pensions...

I've been offered a new job, at a company with a pension scheme where they contribute too - which I understand to be a very good thing!

However, my company are now offering a new role for me and I am in the position to negotiate a new salary... they won't offer a pension scheme of any kind (so I would like to set up my own - Advice on that later please!) but want to know what a comparable salary increase would be...

i.e. Should I ask for a match to the salary the other company have offered plus an additional x amount to cover the lack of benefits (pension, healthcare, shares, life assurance - all offered in the new package elsewhere)

Any clues on what increase I should ask for - and the lowest I should consider...??

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post - please feel free to move the post elsewhere!

Ask how much the new company contributes as a percentage of salary into the pension for you, and also how much the shares benefit is valued at.

You should be able to check the cost of health and life assurance on the net - see the articles in the column to the left for links to useful websites.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
