LOL thanks for the clarification..I realised afterwards that you guys were still on!!
No probs.
The 'sarcasm' button on my keyboard is stuck today, so I apologise for that."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -
That is the only way I said you could avoid the VAT. But AFIK they are all holders not paper owners on here.
I also only purchase physical gold. With bullion vault they reserve part of the bar in your name in a vault. If you have enough you can reserve the physical bar yourself.
I'm not actually buying gold to keep in my home - I'm buying to lock the value of the currency at today's value. I believe the currency rates are going to fall and so feel more confident with changing my cash and buying a few kilos of gold (if I can!)0 -

I'm having a sarcasm day to be honest. Yesterday I was being Devil's Advocate. I find it lessens both the tedium of my job and the tedium that this forum has become, to come up with a theme each day and post accordingly. I was a psychiatrist one day last week, that was great fun.
Tomorrow's theme is to use smilies inappropriately. Thanks for your posts, it's nice to speak to someone in a polite way.
oops, one day too early with the smilie!"I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -
No. I've never tried that route to buying gold. Isn't it quite expensive through ebay?
Its good to sell through ebay.
I do buy from ebay but how it works now is different.
Basically ebay is a meeting place, then you make offers outside ebay to avoid the charges.
Bullionvault et al are not bullion you can touch.
If you dont hold it you dont own it.0 -

But if I purchased physical gold then I would still need to place it in some sort of security.
I feel that with bullion vault I can reserve a bar if I reserve it - but that would require extra costs (plus enough of a deposit to afford a bar!).
The main issue, as really2 has raised is where do you sell if the situation arose so that say gold/silver doubled, trebled or whatever. How do you exit?
Do you go to your nearest Hatton Garden jewellers and take some or all of your gold to change back into currency and then purchase property immediately - relinquishing the depreciating currency value as quickly as possible (at least with property you get rental returns).
My exit strategy is to sell through bullionvault - they reserve part of a bar in my name and I can at least trade with others.
The problem is that this has not been tested in a situation which is unprecedented in respect of online trading when gold increases in value at an exponential rate. So the risks are there but there are greater risks in keeping savings in the bank in currency form, I feel.0 -

Do they include a hacksaw as part of the service 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0
