Debt Free Direct or Payplan

I would be interested to hear of peoples experiences with either Debt Free Direct or Payplan as I am looking to do an IVA. (£160k of unsecured debt)
I initially spoke to Debt Free Direct when CCCS referred me to them but they have been so sloooooooow in sending anything out that I have taken to asking my creditors who they recommend I use. Most of them suggest Payplan. Any views?
Thanks in advance.

I went through Payplan and the whole thing took about 10 weeks. See my post "An IVA through Payplan".Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
Debt free 21st Oct 2011.
All thanks to :money:0 -
Thanks. I have now been in touch with payplan and they seem a lot more efficient. They can even use email which debt free direct can't.

I have just made my first months repayments with Payplan. They have been brilliant and have taken away much of the stress that I've been feeling for the past couple of years. ( It really has been that long).
You will be assigned to a case worker and fairly soon be assigned an email password where you can track the progress of your agreed repayments.
I would add a note of caution.
There is a period of weeks between your contacting Payplan and receiving formal recognition of your problems and gaining agreement from your creditors. Not all will agree to the amounts proposed, and they will hassle you continuously on the phone and via letter. Payplan cannot stop this. I would however highly recommend them.
Good Luck with whoever you decide to use. I have 9 years left until i'm debt free.0 -

Can I suggest you inform the CCCS of the problems you have had with Debt Free Direct. If they are consistently like this it may prompt them to recommend someone else more efficient!

I spoke to CCCS and they said that they were aware that Debt Free Direct were struggling at the moment and that they (CCCS) were looking for someone else to recommend.
Does anyone know why they don't recommend Payplan as on the whole people on these boards seem to be favourable towards them?
Thanks

I know that both cccs and Payplan are free. I am currently with payplan and am pleased with their level of support. Payplan do pretty much everything for you. The make all the formal contacts and dealings with your creditors. You must therefore have provided Payplan with all your creditors dealings and up to date balances. All agreed repayments are made once you have agreed an affordable repayment figure. You have a case worker whom you can contact on the phone or via email, and they are pretty quick in replying via email.
I have not noticed any errors or mistakes on their part, possible because I ring them to check on progress at least twice a week. They always seem to have just sent out a letter on my behalf.
So far so good0
