Selling My Endowment Policy

Can any one recommend any companies that buy endowments as i am going to cash mine in to pay towards house extension, figure it will make more in my property than as a policy.
Are there only certain types they will buy? how much over the surrender rate could i realistically expect to get?
current surrender value £7000, policy been running for 8 years
