We're based in the Western Trust also so am glad to hear that Stevey!!
Your father should be under the care of a non surgical Cardiac consultant here then and that should remain the case after the operation is completed;)
Don't take my word as law however:o I am only a very small cog in a large organisation:o
Fingers crossed that you father never needs anymore surgery after this one.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Just to add to what Stevey said, I was under the care of a cardiac consultant in the Mater Hospital and had all my follow up care and check ups with him so hopefully that should be the case with your dad, they will probably offer some course of cardiac rehabilitation to give some support and advice post op and this is usually done in a local hospital.Try not to worry!

Strange one that, not how it works in the western trust, you are still under the care of the cardiac consultant here, even after the operation. I suppose since it is only Belfast that do cardiac surgery in Norn Iron it could be the case but seems very unfair on the patient. I would be sending a quick email off to the health minister if that happened to anyone in my family, its hardly the patients fault they have been sent elsewhere for the operation, so why should the patient suffer afterwards ?
PS. Good luck with the op Smurf, hope all goes well for your father
Southern trust here stevey. The info actually came from a family member who works in Daisy Hill Hospital and has known about this 'method' of dealing with expired waiting periods for some time. They were able to tell me of one gent who sat in the hospital for FOUR months to ensure he was treated locally.
I agree it is a wholly inadequate situation, but until he actually gets a date and we can seek assurances on further care, we are stuck. perhaps he should move to western trust area0 -

Just pop over from where the M1 ends and get to Omagh or Enniskillen and you'll be alright;)
We look after our folk here in the West:rotfl:
It is shocking that the southern trust tried to wash their hands of a patient just because they had sent them elsewhere for an operation, shocking but not unexpected I suppose, good on the man for doing a sit in protest, should of gotten BBC or UTV involved in that, amazing what a bit of bad publicity can do;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
That guy knew better than to leave.
I know of several people who have been knocked back for after care with complications by that trust. Hardly inspires confidence.0
