Moving Jobs and finding a mortgage

Hi there, my wife and I are prospective first time buyers, planning on relocating from bedfordshire to birmingham. Im the primary wage earner with an annual incom of £22,000, while she earns around £10,000 (both before tax). I work from home so moving will not mean finding a new job however my wife will have to and is unlikely to find a new job in a new area before we move there! Can we put her current wage on a mortgage application or will it be discarded as shell have to leave the jobwhen we move?

Thanks

Most lenders will ask the question about whether you will continue to work in the same place once you move.

That would also be classed as a material fact that would need to be disclosed irrespective of whether they asked or not.

What property prices are you looking at, and what deposit do you have? Do you have any other debts?

Are you self employed working from home?

  • With help from the inlaws we have a deposit of £40k, looking to borrow £100k, no debts beyond a current account overdraft which we're in and out of but can be easily repaid if that would help. I work from home but am not self employed.

You might be able to find a lender to agree the mortgage on the basis of your sole income.

Be careful if going direct, as any multiple credit searches could harm your score and then lower income multiples offered
