Phoenix Life : Trouble surrendering endowment

Hi guys,
Can anyone suggest how to deal with the following.
20 years ago I took out a mortgage.Endowment ( unit investments in stock market) with Royal Life. Mortgage with Household Mortgage Corporation (HMC)
I have recently paid off mortgage and am trying to surrender the endowment - now with Phoenix.
Years ago HMC morped into The Mortgage Corporation and I recall my dd's being collected by various firms over the years , GE Money being the firm for the past 5 years or so.
Now when Phoenix sent me out a surrender the form it stated mt mortgage was with Britannic and said they would need a Letter of Disclaimer from them. I called Phoenix and pointed out I had never paid Brittanic and they would be getting a letter of disclaimer from GE Money.OK .
Last week I spoke to them and they said the units were to be sold that day and i would receive my money this week .
Today i received a letter saying there is no link between GE Money and Mortgage Corporation ( OH Yes there is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And so they need an original letter of disclaimer from Mortgage Corporation ! They have been nothing to do with my mortgage for c 15 years I'm sure.
How can I make them see sense. I am keen to get my money and buy gold before the next 'crash' decimates the value of my units !
Thanks !

Somebody else posted a while ago with a similar problem; the telephone number/address in that thread might be of use:

I think the HMC was bought over by First National in 2000, then First National was bought over by GE Money around 2003........surely GE can confirm this........0
