Tax Refund??...Timescale

Hi

Ive called the tax office up today regarding this current tax year and the fact that i havent made my personal allowance ( unemployed now) yet but have been taxed. To my suprise, she told me that there was a tax rebate sitting on the system for 08/09 tax year which has been sitting there since 2nd Dec 09.....I mean, im not being funny but what are they waiting for really???....im in financial hardship and cud really do with them sending me this cheque!!....and for sum reason she wouldnt disclose the amount?......

How long will this now come thru....these enquiries were made at the start of last week...

Soon I hope!

Thanx

    Hi Lauzxx,

Not sure if this will help as I'm not sure what question you're asking exactly...

When I discovered that I was owed a tax rebate, after being assigned the wrong tax code by my last company :doh:I did the following: I called my local tax office - finding their number from the direct.gov.uk site - and they told me to send them my P60, P45 and a covering letter explaining the situation.

I recieved a cheque for the full amount and an explaination of the calculation within three weeks.

I was not expecting such a quick and straightforward response at all. My advice would be to visit the direct.gov.uk site and take a look at the info on there about getting back overpaid tax - there you'll also find info on contacting your local tax office. Call them and ask them what procedure they will respond to - easiest to do it their way!

Hope it goes well for you :)
