When I was a wee girl growing up we never went on expensive holidays. We were'nt poor, but my parents never took us abroad. Yet, I have really fond memories of them. In fact, I remember staying in a b/b with an outside toilet!

It's the small things in life that matter..... Chin up, you're doing your best and nobody can ask for more than that, not even your kids..

As others have said well done!;) its not easy I know to not have a safety blanket any more! we have just completed our first year of this( doing an IVA) and have got used to using cash, it does make you more aware of what you're spending.
My Oh has been on basic sick pay for nearly 6 weeks and things are getting tight but at least I know we're not getting deeper in debt by using a credit card like we would have done once!
The old style board has been a HUGE help so I recommend going there!
    Good luck!

Yay! Go you for not reaching for the placcy.

Don;t forget, there's loads of free stuff you can do with the kids - parks, museums - our local museum is holding make it days around their egyptian exhibition. Just spending time with them should make them happy. If they really must go away, try a camping holiday, so somewhere in brtain. There's loads of cheap uk hols around.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I remember going camping. All the kids (6 of us) in a tent, and Ma & Pa sleeping into the back of the car. I remember fishing with my Dad, and then cooking the fish on BBQ.

I also vaguely recall going to some theme park.

    Good luck to you!

Re hols - have you thought about going camping, can be done really cheaply. That's what we are doing this year ...but then we do love it!!:D

If you have no gear, do you know anyone who does have some they could lend you? Otherwise you can always drop a few heavy hints re Christmas and birthdays and gather some stuff that way and go next year! Not that I would ever do such a thing!!:D

(I sold my car last year which we cannot afford to replace - all my camping gear that I did have was based on having a big car plus trailer so I have had to downsize everything)

Just a few ideas - I know camping is not for everyone!!:D

I saw some 4 man tents in Big W a week or so ago for £19.99, I was with my mum at the time and she commented that they are so much cheaper nowadays as when we went on holiday in the early 1970's tents for 4 people were very expensive.

Just a thought for you, you dont need expensive holidays for the kids, my parents never took me abroad but just on camping holidays in a tent, was so much fun and a great laugh. We had those camp beds which upturned if there was too much weight on 1 end, one morning my dad ended up with his head out the bottom of the tend cos his bed had upended, we couldnt do nothing but laugh at him....very fond memories I can tell you :p
