Ok, I need some help

although i've been skeptical up to now about so called green issues, i've become more aware of them, and want to do my bit. this is what i do so far, what else can you advise me to do?
recycle :- glass, plastic(the types council here will take),newspapers, paper, cardboard, cans, clothes etc to charity shop, anything else freecycled if useful.
i have low energy light bulbs throughout.
i'm attempting to reduce the amount of packaging on products i buy.

so what else can i do?

i'm sure you'll have lots of ideas for me, thanks in advance,

woas.

Grow your own fruit and veg., and forage the hedgerows
Take your hols in this country.
Freecycle within your own town or county.
    Reduce consumption
Make your own beer and wine.
Fully insulate and draughtproof your home.
    Use the library more.
    Bike or walk,not car.
Re-use by going to auctions, boot sales and the recycling centre.

Wash in cold water , in winter time don't put your heating on , put on warm clothes instead you'll save a fortune that way :D

It's always good to read new ideas for ways to help! I can add:

*Compost kitchen scraps for the garden
*Take a re-usable bag (tesco bag for life or I use my 'Pigsback' bag) into town so you don't gather yet more carrier bags
*If you can't grown your own, why not pick your own! Check yellow pages for local farm shops who also 'PYO'. Much, much cheaper than the shops! I discovered tayberries the other week and they are delicious!!

That's all I can think of at the moment I'm afraid!

This board isn't that old, just scroll thru from the beginning, plus the same with Gas and Electric and Water Boards.
Depends very much on whether you have the co-operation of all household members....being solo, there are no arguments. Being retired or between jobs, does help.
Excess packaging I leave in the supermarket trolley or use the recycling facilities at the site.
Freecycling is great, just received 50 Readers Digest magazines which will eventually go to a waiting room somewhere, and the library is a boon, with free computer use , free newspapers, free books, and if you are a Friend of the Library, free CD and DVD borrowing.
  • Use water butts to catch water from your downpipes to use on the garden instead of the hose (try and get wooden barrels rather than plastic ones).
Use Ecover or the like for your laundry and washing up.
    Get a compost bin
Buy toiletries that have no SLS's.
Buy from farm shops, or other local outlets rather than supermarkets to keep food miles down (if not growing your own)
Buy nothing for a month challenge - Oct

    Have a look at https://www.dontdumpthat.com

Its an alternative to Freecycle but I prefer the format of it to the Yahoo groups format of Freecycle (the reason I signed up to run one of their forums!!!)
