Trousers wearing out, hems rubbing on heels

My OH walks a lot and the hems at the back of his trousers are continually wearing out as they scuff & rub on the heels of his shoes . As he has different coloured trousers can anybody suggest where I might be able to get some all purpose clearish type I can sew onto the inner side of the hems to prevent this wear and tear. He usually ends up with perfectly good trousers that become unwearable because the bottoms end up looking so tatty. Any other suggestions to prevent this problem would be appreciated.

Might it be a good idea to see if his trousers are too long which is why they are rubbing on the heel. If there are any in his collection which dont have this problem then check the measurement of the leg to see if they differ to the others.?0

What you're looking for is "Trouser Kick Tape" if you type it in google there's quite a few results. I've never seen clear tape, just normal standard trouser colours and if you buy online you normally have to buy it in a roll.
You may be able to buy smaller amounts in a local haberdashers?
Edit: This place sells the kick tape for 50p per metre but they only have black & white:
