Drinks for party - advice please

Hi - we are having a wedding party after the honeymoon and providing our own drinks. Any tips on cheapest places to buy alcohol - supermarkets, Costco, or somewhere else ? Does anywhere do sale or return ? ie can we return if its not all drunk ? Anyone got experience of quantities to allow per head. I know it depends how much people drink. Thanks
We got married 17th April 2010 !! A wonderful day with my wonderful husband !! :T

What kind were you planning to serve?
I suggest jugs of spritzer, Rock shandy, Lemonade shandy, punch, that sort of thing if you have to provide drinks.
    Loving the sunny days!
  • Thanks Finefoot. We were planing to provide wine, beer, soft drinks and some spirits - but not many ie just a few bottles. So its mainly getting the best deals on wines and beers. I can get some cheaper soft drinks

Think Morrisons do glass hire, not sure about Asda, think they do return on bottles.

It depends on what drinks your getting, in all honestly supermarkets are about the best bet, esp with cans (cider, bitter, lager), even cheaper than cash and carry prices.

Depends on numbers, what u want to serve, make sure theres soft drinks for drivers, and kids (if you have any going) and see if a friend can man the bar area, to stop and teenagers drinking all the drinks. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

I'd personally leave the spirits off the list, most people will drink wine, with spirits your going to get the choosen few who will have large measures, work out more expensive.

  • I was at Costco last week, and the alcohol isn't particularly cheap. Better deals can be got from the supermarkets, especially the beer and wine. Its great for food though if you are catering it yourself.

How many guests are you inviting?
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. I think there could be up to 100 there. Unfortunately we cant wait for the world cup as its begining of April. We arent catering for ourselves, getting most of that done by outsiders. I have seen some deals in Supermarkets so will probably start buying this weekend. We wont provide much spirits maybe just a bottle of the main ones. Does anyone know if any supermarkets or shops let you return unopened drinks ? Thanks

I think there is a place called majestic which do sale or return and waitrose might too. I've got it written down somewhere but everything is in boxes. I'll try and dig it out.

Not long to go at all for you, are you excited?

Are you hiring glasses too? I just found a thread on here while googling and it said lots of places were booked up a few weeks in advance for glass hire.
