Council Tax and BR

me again lol

Just wondered i have a liablilty order for CT for £1400, it is in both my partners and myself names

I was told by CAB they willl chase him when i go br,

I received a letter last wk chasing me for it which i knew they wud as was informed they always chase woman first as she is seen as the weaker link.

I rang them and explained doing br and the advisor said the debt wud die with me? is this correct or will they continue to chase my OH, as he isnt going Br for a few months yet.

The liability for the CT is joint, so if you go BR then your partner remains liable.

The advisor is wrong.

Would be nice if the CT recovery dept thinks that it would be wiped out as well, but I don't think they will all be that ill informed. Best to assume that your partner will be chased.
