HI all,
Just wondered i have an appointment to open a basic bank account with barclays tomorrow, i banked with them 10 years ago and did have a loan and cc with them sold out years ago to DCA, which i have been paying until recently i am going br on 8th april,
Is it a complete NO NO For me to get a barclays acc, the guy in the branch search for me but couldn't find me, so im not on their records.
I only ask as i live in a small town and they is a barclays branch and a natwest, NW i owe money too, barclays wud be very great for me as its around the corner from my house.
Cooperative is miles away. And santander doesn't offer a card with a solo or electron.
Thanks

hi there barclays funny enough will give bankrupts a basic account.
I have heard some storys about monies been taken from accounts if you owed them.
If you tell them you want basic account and you are going BR and they give you acccount tell OR of account and if they ever took any monies OR would sort out.
best of luck sizzler:)0 -
Thanks Sizzler,
The guy searched for me and he couldnt find me and i know the debt i owed was sold out to DCA years and years ago and has been with a few different DCA's over the years.
I was just worried and the guy who booked me in knows i want basic acc and am going BR, i have an appointment with Santander 2 days after BR but it wud be so much easier to have a Barclays a/c and also they give u electron card.
I just want to be sorted as need wages and tax credits , and also have to a S/o for my rent.
Thanks, do i inform OR this acc is just basic for me to use during br or do i just leave it off?
Thanks0 -
just leave of SOA and tell or is basic living and will be ok:)0

Hi...there was no Co-op branch near where I lived either. I opened over the phone (Coop - 08457 212 212 ) & all banking done in the Post Office or online banking. Barclays don`t usually offer undischarged BR internet access.

You should be fine but Barclays were a bit funny with me in that they would not let me have on-line access all the while I was BR. I could have the account and a debit card but I couldn't have on-line facilities, company policy apparently.
I went with the CO-op in the end as they gave on-line access & a debit card.0 -
Yeah Barclays are OK, but they are also have silly rules.
They took my Internet banking from me, as they don't allow it for people who are bankrupt0 -
We don't have a local co-op branch either so I opened ours over the phone, I can pay money in through the post office.
I like the fact that you get online banking with the co-op so I can check as often as I like, which I need to to keep my mind at rest!
You say you have an appointment with Santander? there are only 2 banks which allow undischarged BR's accounts, and that is Barclays and the Co-op, so I don't think Santander will allow you an account anyway.0 -
I have a coop cashminder account like a lot of us on here, my nearest branch is 15 miles away, opened over the phone and as the others have said use the PO for putting any money in. Also opened a Barclays basic account and I owed them quite a lot when I went BR, by the way opened the Barclays one a couple of months after going BR, whilst I opened the coop 3 months before BR.:pB&SC No. 298

Hi guys
Went to barclays today guy really unhelpful said acc wud be shut down etc etc, and my driving licence was out of date my own fault forgot i had to update my photocard.
So came out of there with no card, just opened a coo-op cashminder over the phone.
Re: Santander, it was the CAB, advisor that told me to try there i explained to lady when i made the appointment i will be BR and she said yes we offer an acc, so looks like they are a bank that do offer, but card is not a solo or electron just basic card for using at cash point.
