Perm advice

My hair is quite short and in a sort of layered bob style. I am in the process of letting it grow, but am getting rather bored with it at the moment. I'm thinking about getting a perm but am unsure what types there are and what would be suited to fine hair.
If anyone has any advice or recommendations, please let me know.

Have you had a perm before? My sister has very fine hair and it won't hold a curl.
The other thing to remember is your hair will look a lot shorter once its been curled.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Anyone have any photos of Kevin Keegan and his perm?0 -
My hair is fine and when I've had perms (long time ago now) they took very quickly - but the hairdresser should be aware of this.0

I have fine hair and had perms for years up until about 10 years ago:eek: and they took really well, in fact sometimes they came out so tight I looked ethnic!?! (Don't want to, or intend to upset anyone) Perhaps you could try using small rollers and see how your hair looks, to give you some idea of the end result.
I liked having a perm as all you have to do is wash it and leave it, no faffing around!0 -
Blushing Bride - it sounds like you have hair like mine. I still bear the mental scars from my perm 20 years ago. Never ever ever again.
It sort of took but instead of making my thick heavy hair curl, it just kinked it. To say I looked like that cartoon charactor from the Hair Bear Bunch is putting it mildly.
I went back in tears and all they could do was cut off nearly all the length and reperm what was left which left me with a frizzy dried out mess. Fortunately my hair grows quickly but I had a good couple of weeks when I'd have happily gone out with a paper bag over my head.0 -
My hair is very fine, not straight and not curly, and never looks the same two days running. I had perms from being about 15, to my mid 20s. At the time I thought they made my hair easier to deal with, but looking back I still used to have to spend quite a long time drying and styling, as if I left it my hair was just frizzy. Perms are not great in the sun or if you go swimming a lot either.
I would never have another perm - I have a shoulder lenth layered cut that I can either straighten, scrunch dry a bit wavy, or leave to dry naturally.0 -
I have fine hair and had it permed a few times in my teens (late 80's/early 90's) It didn't hold a curl very well when long but when I had my bob permed I ended up looking like a granny. I would avoid at all costs!0

Avoid a perm at all costs!
