Council Issued Bankruptcy..

Advice please:
the long and short of it is and it may be too long: My mother had to go into care, and she moved from home to home. It became obvious she could not cope and I took power of attorney. I took charge of paying her bills, and paying the local authority for her care fees, she went into hospital suffering from strokes, and then unfortunately she died. I received a bill from the local authority for 12 months care, one invoice for 12 months fees, even though she had been in and out of hospital over this 12 month period, the invoice came out of the blue. Without going into too much detail, the council's got a judgement against me for payment for of the amount £10,000. The judges comments “someone has to pay”, and that would be me.
Now the council has issued a bankruptcy order against me.
My only income is a small pension and have no assets, this was all explained at the court hearing, and I had no way of paying the outstanding amount (a debt we did not know existed). My mother died with no assets what she had went to pay for her funeral.
The house we live in and all its contents belong to my second wife and everything is in her name, I own an aged computer, and a car which is on finance, and the clothes I stand up in.
We are worried that the official receiver or the council will make a claim against my wife's property,
Is this possible?

It is because I took power of attorney, to help her. Her debts then became mine0
