Hillside & Capquest on my credit file

Hi,
I recently checked my equifax credit file and it says that Hillside services ltd credit searched me and the reason was "outstanding debt". i've read a really old post on the forums and people seem to think that they trace people who owe money, but cant find much more info about them. I moved around alot a few years ago so its possible i had an outstanding utility bill somewhere? but are they allowed to credit search me?? and should i get in touch with them? i havent had anything through the post from them
it also says that capquest credit searched me and through google ive seen that they are a debt collection agency too. does anyone know who uses them so i might know what the debt is?? and again, should i contact them? ive never had anything through the post from either of these companies and this is the first i have heard from them
thanks in advance

They might be searching for people who have a similar name to yourselves. Unless it shows as a full search no one else can see it.
Don't do anything about it unless they write u letters.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
I have no idea what debts they could be as as far as i know i am up to date with all payments and the credit searches were carried out in september 09. the only thing i can think of is an old utility bill that i might have missed when moving house. but how can they credit search me without my permission?? the one from hillside was a full search so thats now stuck on my credit file0
