5 year fixed mortgage dilemma

I remortgaged my house in Nov 2008 at 6.19% for 5 years
The property was then revalued at 318000, I had bought it for 300,000.
The outstanding balance on my property is 252000.
The ERC is 8000.
would it be worth my while remortgaging to another lender at this point.
are tracker mortgages/flexible mortgages a safe option in view of the upcoming election.
Is the BOE base rate likely to go up??
I have some saving which i could use towards the equity..would it be better to overpay rather than remortgage and towards ERC
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
