I came off them on my own and I felt dreadfully dizzy and whoozy.

Hey, dont come off them without speaking to your doctor first. And the withdrawal isnt that bad, really. It may be a lot less than how you will feel without them.

You will just get bad withrawal symptoms if you stop. Use them while you need them then gradually stop via the Doctor. Ive been on them almost two years and have no side effects unless I run oput inbetween perscriptions. They do help me so Ive no plans to stop until I know I can cope withough that little boost.

  • For years I have been struggling with low mood, always feeling down about myself and feelings of hopelessness and even thinking it'd be better if I wasnt here. So I plucked up the courage to go see my GP who made me do a questionnaire which were all very negative answers from me and then he prescribed me Citalapram for 3 weeks. I could really feel the difference when I was on the tablets even after 3 weeks and felt like I was getting my life back. So I went for a check-up with my GP and he made me do the questionnaire again and my answers were almost all more positive so he took me off them after 3 weeks!

I have now noticed the difference again and my low mood is back and I am as aggitated as I was before and my temper is back. I am very angry that the GP took me off them so soon and didnt let me stay on them knowing they were helping me so well.

Should I switch GPs and put in a complaint against him because I feel right now he has put me right back to square one after all my hopes were raised while being on the tablets, I really felt like me again for that short space of time and he has snatched it away!

    So unhappy again............:(:(:(:(
  • It does seem silly that he has taken you off them so soon. I understand that they take 2 to 3 weeks to start working anyway. Perhaps you should switch GPs and make a complaint.

    Thank goodness for citalopram!

Firstly to moneysaver 12 I would be terrified if I fell pregnant whilst taking any meds, so excellent work coming off them!!!! :T

I've been on citalopram for 18 months now, and it has made such a huge difference to me. I've had to increase the dose, I'm now fluctuating between 40mg and 50mg (its that life thing!!), I'm hoping to stabilize at 40mg, but at the end of the day as long as the drug's working for me that's all that matters.

I've had to fight the embarrassment of 'needing' meds, but who cares? I've been unable to work for almost 10 years, I'm now feeling able to consider simple, non-threatening (!!) jobs whereas before the mere thought of committing to a permanent job left me petrified.

There are lots of things to help you cope, from diet and vitamins to things like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - your GP may be able to refer you for this, or some kind of counselling. The best thing though, is your lovely husband and the promise of that new little life!!! Get all the help and support you can from family and friends, even if they don't seem to completely understand - if they love you they'll want to help. Accept all offers, being washing the dishes or providing a shoulder to cry on, absolutely anything to help remove stress.

To all here with depression and mood disorders, my very best wishes, and thanks for all the posts - a great little support great.

    God bless,
    wilson x
Wilson the Volleyball is one of Hollywood's most loved volleyballs. His glittering career started when he became the only companion of Tom Hanks' Chuck Noland in Cast Away. Many say this is Wilson's best performance and he couldn't have given a better effort.

Rather than look to change GP first go and explain what you have said here and that you realy felt that it helped you. If he/she doesnt agree then look to change.

I really hope you feel better ASAP. As per my previous posts Im like Wilsoon and been on them for almost two years. They really do help me. They dont solve everything but make things seem easier to deal with and my moods better.
