Calais Diy Stores

Hi, I need to decorate my new flat and have heard that it may be wise to buy some fixtures and fittings (bath, taps, tiles, etc...) in France/Calais due to their cheapness - has anyone done the same and can you recommend any stores?? Thanks.

I happen to be going to
    http://www.lapeyre.fr/Lapeyre/pub.accueil.PreHomeController.do?event=show

They are in Calais (address on site) and the catalogue given to me by (French) builder is useless. So I have booked cheap day trip to France with my pushbike to check them out.

    Have you tried https://www.daytripper.net

They have info on shopping in France, particularly the ports. They have links to all the DIY stores. Some of them look good but unfortunately although the main link for Merlin can be translated into English there seems to be no option in the French section. I, too would be interested in any info.

I am happy to do this but am not very well up on what diy places are like in Blighty never mind foreign. My last visit was summer '04 to vast B&Q hanger in North London, needless to say it was really difficult to find what I was after (some anti pigeon-style netting for my balcony.)
  • Hi,

If you are travelling by Eurotunnel you will find at about 5mins drive a big DIY store called 'LEROY MERLIN'.it is in Coquelles and is situated next door to 'AUCHAN' supermarket. Its difficult to explain how to actually get there but is only about 5 mins drive from Eurotunnel and Cite D'Europe.

There is also opposite a bathroom shop selling all kinds of plumbing, bathroom suites etc.
My experience is that yes it is cheaper than here and the quality is of a much higher standard to the crap that DIY stores knock out here.

In the Summer time they will probably have an array of pre-erected garden sheds and summer houses out side the front of the store.I bought one of these a few years ago (comes in flatpack) and for what I spent its was a real good strong shed.It slotted all together, very thick, unlike the flimsy sheds here, the only work that needed was to a build a floor for it.
They are imported into the UK but I cannot for the life of me remember by who. They actually come from Belgium.

If anyone knows the name can they let me know.
