    Maybe something with Stilton.

depending on how seriously you are taking it, Stilton can be a "love it" or "hate it" cheese.

My husband got down to the last 5 in a CDWM interview they even filmed out house, in the end he didnt get in and to be honest when we watched the programme we were really pleased that he didnt get in but his menu would of been a starter of fish and chips made with tiny matchstick chips and a couple of chicken nuggett size fish on a spoonfull of mushy peas, the main was a lamb tagine, roast potatoes and roasted veg because its easy to do and you just put it all in the oven and for pudding it was a tart autan? sp unside down apple tart with icecream lol

Before we knew he didnt get in he practiced it on us and it was lovely.

Although i cook proper meals for myself every day, they're nothing special and i wouldn't dream of applying to go on Tv, but then i look at the state of some of them and what they call cooking on that programme.

That's really interesting. I didn't know that's how they went about it. Your OH probably did well to avoid it as the programme seems to be more about personalities than cooking. Imagine someone poking about your house!!
I distinctly remember an episode with foootballers wives on where the wife of Djibril Cisse messed up her original pudding and served up Angel Delight and called it Delice des Anges(having phoned him first to get a French translation).

I like hosting dinner parties, and attending them, and i like watching come dine with me, but the idea of doing it with friends, or worse, colleagues, and risking someone feeling slighted by less than full marks, it just makes me want to run for the hills!

    Good luck op!

No one is keen on the marking - except me (& I don't expect to win, I was after second place;)).

We were going to do secret marking:D

Oh, it doesn't matter if its secret. Some one will get the pip, silently but deeply, that great aunt flora's recipe is only worth eight of ten when everybody has said its like manna from Heaven and the 'insulted' will be wondering forever more and harbouring suspicion about who the vindictive person who marked them is.

:D. I Am sure it will all be fun, playiing with fire always is!:D

What lostinrates said except I loathe that programme. *rant starts* I'm obviously an old-fashioned stick-in-the-mud with no sense of fun because I think entertaining one's friends should be all about hospitality and making people feel welcome and as comfortable as possible and competitiveness has no place in that for me.

It's just so obvious that the researchers specially select groups of people specifically to find combinations they know won't get on. And the rudeness of some of them after they've been fed and watered even if it wasn't absolute perfection! Often by well-meaning and perfectly nice people. So manufactured and nasty.

I wouldn't want to encourage my own friends to think behaving like that was OK. *rant ends*

The secret-marking is a very wise idea. I suspect it will still cause unhappiness in some quarters nevertheless. I do hope that I'm proven wrong.

Lol, i like it because i scream much the same at the tv.

I mean...really the faff about whether people have 'made it themselves' is ridiculous, and i say that as someone who coooks from scratch. I cannot imagine frowning at someone else's hospitality because they do not enjoy cooking. And help in the kitchen? Means the host has more time at the table, another win from my pov.

And then the...entertainment...shudder. We tend to do crazy stuff like..talk..over meals at our house!
