BT's ftp site - help request!

Has anyone had problems in the last few days uploading websites to ftp.btinternet.com?
I recently moved to Talk Talk Broadband. I design and manage a friend's BT hosted website from my Mac, but I can no longer update his site. I simply can't connect to the BT server! I get the message 'Cannot connect because the FTP server is not responding'. I've tried to connect with Fetch, from explorer and from my web design app. I have a couple of sites hosted by other ISPs and have no problems uploading to them.
Of course BT's technical support is stunningly useless. All I wanted was a simple yes or no to the question: is there a problem with the BT ftp server? And they couldn't answer it! They just didn't know and couldn't transfer me to anyone who did! And there's no reference to uploading to your webspace on the BT site. Any help much appreciated.

Can you ping the IP address?
It's 194.73.73.119
If so, can you log onto the FTP server using the IP address?0 -
Which ISP were you with before? Did it connect OK then?
Maybe the ftp server checks that you are connecting from a BT IP address and won't let you connect if not.0 -
got the feeling that you need to connect via BTbroadband...like chippy says
can connect to mine okEx forum ambassador

Yes thanks, that occured to me too. I WAS with BTYahoo myself before moving to Talk Talk, the TT Broadband went live last week. But it would be nice if BT could confirm it and if this is the case, we can then move the site to a more professional server.0

Thanks, I've tried that but still can't connect.0 -
This is almost certainly the case, if Browntoa can connect then it appears the FTP server is up. I just tried and I'm not on BT and I could not connect.
Looks like you will need to move your files to another webspace, accessible from your new Broadband. I'm sure some suggestions will be forthcoming.0 -

I would guess that you will have the same problem accessing any BT e-mail accounts using POP3 from TalkTalk.
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Well interestingly I don't have any problems accessing my BT e-mail account! I understand most ISPS will keep your e-mail accounts running for about a month after moving to another provider. Or maybe BT just haven't got around to throwing the switch on that one yet?0 -

Indeed they will.
God, there's even problems with TalkTalk accounts on TalkTalk. I think some mail servers have classed the TalkTalk domain as Spam and/or added it to their Blacklists as there seem to be problems with TalkTalk mail going to some domains.0 -
you need to dial in to Bt's servers every 60 days to make sure that you keep your email addressEx forum ambassador
