Crochet - where to begin

Following on from the baby thread and the money saving option of knitting and crochet I thought I'd ask some advice on here. I saw lovely crocheted strawberry coasters that I think were Cath Kidson (or someone similar) and thought it would be lovely to try it myself but I don't know where to begin.

Are there any good beginners books or kits that anyone can recommend?

  • Hiya,
Sorry I know zilch about crochet, but I have been teaching myself to knit by using you tube tutorials, they have been brilliant (and free) maybe there is something to help you on there.

Also, the old style money saving board might be a good place to ask, as they are all so good at crafts?

    :)
  • Oh great thread - Im the knitaholic from your other thread, but also keep threatening to learn to crochet as you can make loads of toys with crochet but there arent knit pattern alternatives. There is a magazine series running currently about crocheting, and comes with a freebie each edition, but I havent found it yet - its probably in the likes of smiths or a larger newspaper place...people have been raving about it on other threads...
Im knitty, Im nutty, but I dont know anyone called Nora. :p
  • Pardon the pun...."threads" lol!

I can crochet - thank you Gran! - and would be happy to answer any queries. I'd also be happy to demonstrate but can't think how I could do that here. I'll have a Google to see if I can find any basic instructions that make sense and get back to you.
