It's all gone wrong - printer broken!

I was given a large format printer (HP DesignJet 500) which broke recently - was giving an 86:01 error message. I tried a number of companies in order to get the thing fixed - on average, £300 just to come out, with the first half hour's(!) labour for free - like half an hour will do it!!!

I found a company who for £110 (plus parts) would take it away, strip it down, fix it and deliver it back. When I described the problem initially, they said it was probably just the belt that needed replacing and quoted about £50 for the part. I've just been told it's going to cost in excess of £500 and that even if I said no to it, the £110 is gone anyway!!!

Does anyone know anything about these printers?
