The law and working on Easter Sunday

What about religion, not all religions celebrate the same, so are they allowed to open?
I remember years ago when there was no Sunday opening. A local furniture store opened on Sunday but closed on Saturday as the owners were Jewish.
ML.
Yes, reading the rules, that's allowed. However doesn't apply with my shop.0 -
In Scotland the laws changed years ago, I always get caught out down south because I never remember the limited opening.
A favourite trick my dad told me about (see really years ago) was furniture shops (who couldn't legally sell furniture on Sundays) selling carrots for £100 per pound and throwing in a free 3 piece suite with every bag.
Love how booze shops can open but little else on the Lord's Day! :A:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -

Yes unfortunately for those of us who work in retail in Scotland we have to work a full day (8 hours trading) on Easter Sunday for no extra pay as it is not a bank holiday. Boxing day is the same if it falls on a Sunday. :mad:0 -
But would you rather be getting 8 hours pay, rather than nothing like your counterparts in England and Wales?Yes unfortunately for those of us who work in retail in Scotland we have to work a full day (8 hours trading) on Easter Sunday for no extra pay as it is not a bank holiday. As a ps to this, I worked yesterday with some trepidation and the shop was absolutely heaving, we must have made masses more than on a normal Sunday. Only one person said something about it being Easter Sun and they thought we shouldn't be open, didn't stop them loading their trolley though. It's incredible how shopping seems now to be a leisure activity in itself, rather than just a means to an end. Several people said they came here as they were wondering what to do, I suppose they tried Tesco first, then B & Q then us. This in the middle of a tourist area with masses of activities as well as glorious countryside!
Anyway I expect for another year the owner has got away with it but I'll be back worrying again next year!!
Thanks
