HI, I'm not sure about the salt, lo-saltor something.
But beetroot juice helps to lower it, so eat loads

Hi, I didn't bother substituting the salt, I just cut it out, not that I used it a lot anyway, I can pretty much take or leave it. I only have it with fish and chips now. Maybe try adding herbs instead, they give your food another flavour altogether. Hope this helpsI got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0

Try some herbs and spices (dried are ideal for this) in place of the salt.
It takes a little getting used to but does work.
You just need to re-educate your taste buds.

just a little word of warning if you cut out salt at home then get invited out for a meal Yuk it tastes so salty so be warned.0

I'd agree with gradually cutting out salt altogether
We cook nearly all our food from scratch. I now only use salt in bread (less than the recommended ammount
) and when making pancetta or curing pork. We rarely have it at table, either.

I only add salt to a boiled egg but now overdose on black pepper!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Like Lilaclady I too never use salt, apart from sticking on the front path if we have snow I am a total pepper freak though and can never understand why its rarely you get pepper in a chip shop. I use all different sorts for cooking and couldn't do without it but the salt in my salt celler could sit there till doomsday .0

I just don't use salt now - just on poached eggs.
Strawberries are supposed to be good for lowering BP.
Good luck xBon App's Scraps!

Cutting back on salt in food you make yourself is easy but does take a little getting used to. As others have said using herbs and spices makes a difference, I put a bit of onion powder in most things I make.
The problem is with processed or ready made food, sometimes one item can have almost the daily recommended amount of salt in. Even things like breakfast cereals, ketchup, tinned beans, cheese etc. can have high levels of salt in them.
My OH is on a salt restricted diet because he has kidney failure and is on dialysis, we were told never to use substitutes like lo-salt because they have high levels of potassium.
This leaflet is for renal patients but it has some good advice about cutting down on salt and alternatives you can use:
