Plus if you could bear moving back home you'd save £540 per month less, say, £200 rent to bank of mum = £340 per month - debt free in about 3 and a half years.. not too bad.
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

    Hi Danni!

Panic ye not...people on here are very knowledgeable as they've been where you are...and...I include myself here!!...are a lot older than you....so realised their problem a lot later on. Just think....if you can become debt free in your twenties, you are about 10-15 years ahead of a lot of other people....again I include myself here (a repentant 35yr old!!!:o ).

So once these fab people get you back on the right road you can look forward to a life of living within your means, not struggling to pay off anything and more importantly...peace of mind! :T

Just by reading these pages daily is a gentle slap on the wrists for me if I have indulged myself wantonly on c**p!!! :rotfl: I know recently I have...and look at my poor pink hands!!! :o

Yeah my travel is a lot but i live in london so spend £86 a month on a travel pass and the rest is travelling to see my boyfriend and parents who live about an hour or so away.

Thanks for all the replies its really appreciated. I have been thinking about moving back home, it just seems awful because I love my job up here and I only moved out about 4 months ago!

Could you not commute from your parents? Where is it you've moved from?

£85.30 is zones 1 and 2, right? ... If you live in Zone 2 you're not all that far out ... Is there a chance you could ditch the Travelcard, buy a bike and cycle to work, saving your travel costs? ... I live in Zone 4 at the moment, 15 miles from work so I NEED my travelcard, but am moving to Zone 2 soon and am planning to phase out the need for a Travelcard! (Depending on the distances involved you might well find that the cycle route is faster than public transport too! Another added bonus is that if you know you're cycling home, you know you can't drink too much after work, which might also save you a few ££ if you're in the habit of staying out for "a swift half" ;))

I know one of the best options is to move in with my parents, but my brother has moved out and my sister is planning on going soon aswell. I know they are looking for a one bed flat for the two of them so I would feel really out of order forcing them into something else, and I also know they would be so disspointed in me (they dont know how much i owe) but I cant really see what else i can do : (
Oh and cycling is a good idea, and i have been thinking of that so thanks for that one - although a bit shaky on my bike at the best of times!!

Hi Danni... I'm 23 now and wish I realised when I was 21 that I was getting into such a mess. Now I really want to be debt free by the time I'm 30. I moved back to Bournemouth after studying in London coz I know if I stayed I was just going to get myself deeper and deeper. Well done for recognising the need to change some stuff! Good luck!
