cheers, i dont have a clue about bikes. I really want something thats value for money, and dont care if its new or second hand. off to have a look one ebay, thanks for your tips!

A reputable 2nd hand dealer is also a good place to go if you aren't that confident about what you're buying. If you're lucky enough to have somewhere like this near you

ever better. At least you know what you're buying has been serviced.

Avoid it if you can. Try Ebay.

After signing in type bike into search bar. Will come up with categories. Click cycling. Then bikes. Sort by - Nearest first.

Then scroll down and choose brand. Any of these should be pretty decent bikes but please read the description carefully. Bianchi, Carrera, Cannondale, Claud Butler, Dawes, Gary Fisher, Schwinn, GT, Giant, Ridgeback, Scott, Trek, Marin, Kona, Klein, Litespeed, Specialized, Orbea, Boardman

Some of these brands you will NOT be able to get very cheaply. However you should be able to get one of them fairly close and pretty cheaply.

I am not an expert but I think Barracuda are still cheap bikes, steel frame will be heavy, dual suspension will make it even heavier. You really do not need rear suspension, it will make it very hard work on anything other than downhill

  • For what it's worth...

I bought a cheap £50 MTB from sprtsdirect last year, to get me back into the cycling habit (I didn't want to spend loads then find out I hated it), to be fair, for the price it wasn't bad, simple fixed frame bike. I knew it wasn't going to last for ever but that wasn't the point. I freecycled the bike earlier this year & upgraded to a dawes discovery this year from evans cycles

I went for this cos it's a hybrid & I'll be doing mainly road (commuting to work & cycle paths) I went for evans despite poorish customer service reviews because you can use a cashback site & they price match, so I got £60 off & £8 cashback and delivered free within 3 days. So far so good & much faster than my old MTB.
I wouldn't go for a suspension bike if your thinking of staying mainly on the road or canal paths etc a waste of energy.
I do get annoyed by the bike snobs going on about how you shouldn't spend less that £500!
They may be right but I don't have that kind of money to spend on a bike & my employer doesn't do a cycle to work scheme & I couldn't find anything second hand that I wanted, so like most things in life, unless you have loads of dosh you have to compromise!

How did you get £60 off? Was it just the fact that it shows the RRP and they sell it for less?

    Thanks
