My partner just got some news about his job

My partner has been doing 12 hour shifts since May due to his shift partner leaving to travel the world. No one has been found to replace him, hence my partner doing 12 hours. This has been bringing £700 extra a month in, which we have spent on a well deserved holiday (but got a great deal) and I let him buy an Ipod:o The rest is in savings.

He's just been informed that his shifts will be changing from 2 shift to 3 shifts which is better than what he's doing now and also means a £6k payrise :j Debt free date is coming nearer:D

DEBT FREE for the first time in 10 years and with savings!

Congrats Leni - always good to get more dough and get closer to that big day - don't blame you for taking a holiday, you'd both need it! What is your debt-free date? Doesn't say in your siggy....

it's nor calculated because we don't have a set amount we pay each month but aiming for Aug 2007 (though we could bring this down if we were good, but my partner doesn't want to make too many cuts) tut

Start a spending diary, write down every penny you spend and what you spend it on.

That will help you know how much goes on groceries etc.

It really helps to see it written down.

    Good luck

Leni - you could also join the Grocery Challenge on MSE... set yourself a limit and then a) put yourself onto the challenge post (just do a search), then b) amend your signature with your proposed shopping limit for the month. Update it as and when, and any savings could go straight to paying off one of your debts at the end of the month... Plus your savings could motivate someone else to start doing the same - and a vicious circle commences :T
