would your rather work longer hours for more money or fewer for less?

assuming you are in employment, what would increase your quality of life more? a pay increase for longer hours, or an hour cut with pro rata pay cut?

also, taking into account commute time how long is your average working week. mine's 52 hours.

I'm soon to move onto a shift of 4-6-4 which means 14 days on 14 days off in a 28 day period. Similar to what the offshore chaps get.

Add in a month of leave (22+8) it works out at only 5mths out of 12 in work. 10hr days during the week and 12hr days on weekend days.

As to your question...Give me as much OT as possible. I don't mind working whilst im young and able. In 20-30yrs time it may be another matter but for now i'll take all the money I can get my greedy mits on.

As I'm only working 10 hours a week at the moment, I'll say I'd rather work longer hours. A couple years ago I'd have taken a pay cut to do less hour, be careful what you wish for!

World of work has changed with technology having a major influence in past 25 years.

So now I now part time for 2 companies (both within 12 minutes drive of home) and fill the remainder with my own business which relates to my hobby as opposed to my profession.

Quality of life so much better and satisfying. I can flex my hours. Within reason do what I want when I want. As I have control over my own destiny.

Slogging your guts out (for a take all employer), while trying to locate the end of the Rainbow isn't worth it. Enjoy your innings while you can.........

I'd really like to have dh at home more. working from home in the Big Freeze was just fantastic, but we also want stuff...like a home to be at.

I suppose, ultimately, our decision has been work more have more (eventually.)

    Happy with where I am

I work a 'normal' week of around 38-40 hours but my commute adds an extra 15 hours to that . However, I choose to live out of town so can't complain.

I work 37hrs per week spend a total of 30 mins a 'week' travelling, and about 2 hours getting ready a week! Less than 40hours work commitment altogether a week.

Wouldnt change for anything that needs major commitment, im quite settled and happy at the moment. I can walk the little one to school in the morning, and still get to work early too.

Its a lifestyle choice, I earn above average, and a friend of mine earns more than double for the commitment of all day everyday, as he lives and breathes work.

His missis wants him to get a job like me, I want a job like his so I can retire earlier but with my hours, but given the options for me arnt there at the moment, I will enjoy the time I have with my family.

My friend and I are similarly qualified, but given different chances in life. one side of me dreams about a chance like his, where as he never had an option like mine. soooo... its all if buts and maybe's

He enjoys the exotic holidays, where as im happy with Tenerife and 52 weeks of togetherness. Not speaking to my family on the end of a phone each night before sleep.
