Electrical Safety Cert Question.

Hi All

I have arranged for a house I am renting out to be safety certified in relation to the electrics by a qualified electrician. The electrician asked me if I needed the smoke alarms done as well, I am not sure if this is necessary or not, could some advise please?

Thanks in advance.

  • if it's hard wired (i.e. wired to the mains electric) I would say yes. Not required if battery operated but I would make sure it was working at the very least

    Thank you for that response.

I have been quoted £120 to have the smoke alarms checked in addition to the applicances, is this a fair price?

What do I need the electrician to provide me with, is it called an electrical safety certificate?

    Thanks again.

If it is hard wired it should be treated as part of the installation and therefore tested as the norm.

On top of the normal test?

  • would agree with dmxdave.... if hard wired it should be tested as part of the electrical test.... are you sure this smoke alarm test they are refering to isn't some sort of fire safety cert test?? £120 extra for an electrical safety test on a fire alarm hmmmmm don't think so!!

Sorry guys, I meant to say the standard electrical certification is £95 and to have the smoke alarms tested is an extra £25, equating to £120.
