Tesco clubcard topping up with cash?

Never noticed this before but the clubcard statement that arrived today has something on it about topping the balance up at the checkout with cash from as little as 50p!.

If this goes on the gross total at the end of the year does this mean using cash to top the balance up means we can still convert each £1 into upto £4 in reward points?. Cant see this being the case so just looking for clarification.

The answer is no (see below) - would have been nice though.

It's so easy to spread the cost of Christmas with Clubcard

Many of our customers like to save up their Clubcard vouchers throughout the year. That way they can use them all on the biggest shop, at Christmas time. But they wanted us to make it even easier for them. That's why we started the Clubcard Christmas saver scheme.
The benefits of being a Christmas saver are:

Rather than send you your vouchers throughout the year we save them for you & send them to you in November.

    How it works

    1. Scan your Clubcard every time you shop to collect Clubcard points.
    2. You'll receive your Clubcard statement throughout the year as usual with some money off & Clubcard coupons and a summary of all the Clubcard points you've collected.
    3. You can also save a bit extra too - just top up from as little as 50p to a maximum of £360 at the checkout.
    4. In November we'll send you your Clubcard statement which will include your Clubcard vouchers, top up vouchers and your bonus vouchers (see below for explanation).
    5. Up to you how you spend them across the store or on-line.
What will I receive in my November 2010 Clubcard statement if I become a Xmas Saver?

We convert the points you have collected into money off vouchers. You can spend these vouchers in-store, on-line or with one of our partners on Clubcard rewards.

All the money you top up at the checkout will be sent to you in top up vouchers. You can spend these in-store or online.

Your bonus voucher (either £3 or £6 depending on how much you've saved). You can spend these in-store or online - see table below for details.

Money off or Clubcard point coupons.

    Amount saved in top-up Bonus voucher £50 - £99.50 £3 £100+ £6 It's really easy to join

Simply call our helpdesk on 0800 59 16 88 to join the scheme.

    Frequently asked questions

What happens if I become a Clubcard Christmas Saver and still receive Clubcard vouchers as usual?
Don't worry if you receive Clubcard vouchers in your first statement after joining, sometimes a statement is already on its way before we've had time to register you as a Clubcard Christmas Saver. Simply take your Clubcard vouchers to the checkout where they can be put into your savings.
I have Clubcard vouchers at home, can I put them into the scheme?
If you have any valid Clubcard vouchers, these can also be taken to the checkout and used to top-up your savings. They will be treated in the same way as a cash top-up.
Where can I redeem my top-up and bonus vouchers?
When you top-up your Saver balance at the till, it will appear in your November statement as top-up vouchers. Top-up and bonus vouchers can be redeemed in-store, online, on petrol or at Tesco direct. They cannot be redeemed on Clubcard rewards.
What happens if I decide I don't want to be a Christmas Saver anymore?
You can opt out of the scheme at any time of the year. Just call us on 0800 59 16 88. Your Clubcard vouchers will then be sent to you in your next Clubcard statement. However, any top-up vouchers you have from your cash savings will not be sent out until your November statement.
What happens if I'm an Airmiles or BA Miles customer?
You have to opt out of the Airmiles or BA Miles scheme if you wish to become a Clubcard Christmas Saver.
Do I collect Clubcard points on money I top-up at the checkout?
Clubcard points are not collected on any top-ups.
When is the last day I can collect Clubcard points for Christmas 2010?
Points can be collected until 17th October 2010. The last day for topping-up is 15th October 2010.
How long are my top-up vouchers valid for?
Your top-up vouchers will expire after two years. But if you'd like to keep them for longer than this, then give us a call on 0800 59 16 88 and we'll issue a giftcard to the value of your vouchers.
We hope this answers all of your questions.
If you'd like to find out anything else, please call us on 0800 59 16 88.
