What is the time frame after CSA application

After you send your child support application to the CSA, when is the NRP liable for financial support? Is it from the date the CSA receive your application? Or is it the date they contact the NRP?

Any advice or experience much appreciated?

  • I believe its the date they contact the NRP. Trying to remember dates from OHs assesment, may actually be from the date they recieved his reply - which had to be with in 10 days of receiving the forms.
  • I wonder how long it takes to contact the NRP then, once they have received a PWC application? Do they have guidelines which they must stick to? Otherwise, the CSA could choose to contact NRP at their leisure.....!
  • just checked on his paper work and the date appears to be when they actually sent the first letter so technically thats before they 1st contacted him as it took 2 days to get here. We have no idea when the PWC applied so can't help on how long it took them. It did only take a few weeks to do the original calculation. I know she dated her application for variation 12/10 and they wrote to us about it on 5/1, but they seem to have acted quicker on her appeal to their decision as they have sent letter notifing us only 5 wks after we recieved it - now we have to wait an estimated 10 wks to see what happens next.
  • Good luck with the appeal. Thanks for the info.

I made an application last year on the 19th March, ex became liable on the 6th April which I assume is the date that they first contacted him. He certainly was yelling at me by the 9th April!!!

I have found the CSA generally to be helpful although somewhat useless if you have a complex case in that it seems to get passed around a lot (by complex I mean an ex who is self employed with no intention of paying!!!). I phone them every couple of weeks to see how things are coming along - in the last year, I can honestly say I've only had one staff member be 'off' with me and tell me 'we're dealing with it, as we always tell you'. The rest have took the time to have a scan of their computer screen and tell me what has happened since the last time I called. and sometimes, they have even called me!

the case will start from the day the NRP recieves the MEF in the post.

the date on that letter is the official start date of the claim. they generally get one out about 2 weeks after you contact them.
