I have used one of those magic sponge things on mine - the ones you just add water to and it seemed to work.

After you've get them off, if you give the doors a good rub with a wax furniture polish it won't stop them getting fingerprinted again, but it will probably make it easier to get them off.

might that not take the paint off? (probably not a painted surface but just checking - sugar soap is fantastic!:D)

MumofLewis - is it glass panes you are trying to clean or a painted surface?

I've used it on doors painted with gloss paint and it was fine. I don't think i'd risk using it on walls painted with emulsion. Have also used it on kitchen cupboard doors and the white plastic stuff round windows.

If it is glass that you are trying to clean then ignore my suggestion. for glass, hot water with vinegar and 2 microfiber cloths, 1 to use wet and the other to dry off!

I bought one of those little squeegys from homebase (around £4) to clean the shower screen with, nothing else (even chemicals) would get the limescale off the screen but the squeegy did just using diluted sugar soap so I'm sure that would work with fingerprints :D

  • A sugar soap solution will take almost anything off gloss-painted surfaces but make sure you wear rubber-gloves! It'll strip all the oil from your skin leaving your hands very, very dry if you don't.

I love sugar-soap for cleaning jobs almost as much as I love vinegar.
