hey guys,
Im looking to buy a new digital camera in the next month or two.
I dont want a really bulky one but do want a decent one.
I currently have a sony cybershot 7mp but find that the quality is a bit poor.
I am lookinh for a 12--14mp under £300.
I have no idea where to start.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to which camera is good?

You would be best advised to do some more research. A higher megapixel rate does not mean higher quality pictures, and for a point and shoot camera anything above 10 megapixels is pointless.Gone ... or have I?0

Correct about the megapixels not being the crucial thing. For that kind of money, some of the Panasonic Lumix cameras are decent with a good lens and zoom. For not much more you can get a "real" slr with kit lens, but these will be a little bulkier but the image quality will be better.
I am a semi-pro photographer (https://www.bluemango-photography.co.uk) and always turn to the camera bible at https://www.dpreview.com for some great reviews.0 -
I have just got a Canon Ixus 130 and can vouch for that. Its tiny, feels strudy and takes good photos. I paid £270 from Jessops with a leather case, 8GB card and HDMI lead, as it also does 720p videos!0

may be a 2nd hand Canon G10, the lens gives the quality, not megapixels0

I got the OH one of these for Christmas:

It compliments her 5MP compact very well as the compact is still good for taking general shots at parties etc. The main thing about the Nikon is that it has 15 X zoom, and 10MP is more than enough.
I'm not suggesting that camera in particular but to me it seems that price gives everything you need until you want to go up to the expense and bulk of an SLR. I'm not really into photography though, my opinion of the Nikon is based on someone who just wants to turn it on and press the button, extra functions would be wasted (as they probably are on 90% of the population).
The sensor and the optics are more important than the number of pixels, and unless you intend to print in a very large size format 10MP should be enough...your mileage may vary though, but most people these days just post images on Facebook which is a fairly small size.0
