Well, I've just called and registered , it was very easy. I just need to make sure I keep all my paperwork and receipts! He's sending me the NI excemption form .
To be honest, I think I'll end up just doing AQA as the mystery shoppig is £5 here and there, not really worth it, but I'll keep my options open for now.

Thank goodness I found this thread - this is my position exactly and although my first emplyment is intermittent I dont want to get on the wrong side of the tax man!!!!
I presume that this will aslo take care of any extra student loan repayments if I make a tax return? ANy thoughts on this?

Hi the HMRC new name for Inland Revenue offers workshops for free on becoming self employed and Self assessment for self employed phone your local office or check out BST Business support team in the website. They are free and last about 4 -4.5hours each. the advisors are great they realy helped me I visited and spoke face to face once id set up my records. I feel i know the difference between class 1 2 4 NIC and all my expences, they explain everyting. Business link put me in touch with them. My Employment is sorted too . I cant speek too highly of them. I believe the may be slimming down the service so get in touch soon. Im going shortly to a meeting on Tne New Construction industry thingy coming in soon, looking forward to that for networking!
They mentioned sommat about student loans in the worshops too0
