Duty on cider will rise by 10pc above inflation from Sunday. Mr Darling said it had escaped tax rises in the past but the move would correct this anomaly.
Duty on beers, wines and spirits will rise by 2pc above inflation from midnight on Sunday.

GRRR THE CIDER TAX!!!! this won't end binge drinking!! this will affect the small producers, the pretty orchards that make england look like England. Tax white chemical cider to stop binge drinking - you can't binge on traditionally made scrumpy.. you'd fall over too quickly!!

Cider tax was traditionally low to protect the labourers drink & help out the farmer. now it should be low to help out our artisan producers and protect our orchards and their wildlife.
