Hi everyone
I'm a little bit nervous as this is all new to me so not sure if I'm even doing it right! I've been reading the DFW boards for a while now and have decided to pluck up the courage to share my debt woes. The bottom line is I'm useless with money - don't know where it stems from, I'm the only one in my (immediate) family in debt - £26,840 to be precise . And I'm worrying myself sick about it. Nobody knows except me (and anyone reading this)
I have taken advice from this forum, have stopped stressing about why or how I got here and am focussing on moving forward. I just wanted to get it off my chest. It is so reassuring knowing I am not the only one in this situation and that everybody who posts is brilliantly understanding and sympathetic... I have broken my (mostly credit cards) debt down into 'sizeable' chunks and set up a spreadsheet so each month I deduct my monthly payments and watch the balance decrease. Ok, it's not much but it's going in the right direction - down!
. I've stopped spending on rubbish and any 'spare' cash at the end of the month goes into paying off the CC with the highest balance.
I know it is going to be a long hard slog but I'm determined. Having seen others beat this I am inspired to keep trudging on and watching that big £26k number get lower.
Whether or not I continue to post or just keep reading other's advice I wanted to take the first step to sorting out the financial mess I'm in. So thank you for listening and any other advice you can give me is greatly appreciated (especially about what all the acronyms at the bottom of people's posts mean!
