More questions!

I have a few questions that keep popping in to my head if any one could answer them please.
I have a car which I need to get to work I live in a village and work aprox 10 miles away there is little public transport where i live and I also work odd hours Ie split shifts early starts and late finishes car is old and only worth 400-500 max.
Would I be allowed to keep it? could not work if not. If They were to take my car I would have to leave work as would really not be possible to get there is there any way of finding out for sure before bancrupcy??

Pets, I have dogs who mean a lot to me and I could not part with them.
They are insured for vets bills etc one is quite old with health probs so the insurance is quite high and I would not be able to change insurance aswould not get he same cover with anyone else. is pet insurance allowed by or?
I have no possesions of any great value just normal house hold stuff ie tv fridge cooker etc does all that have to be listed on your forms and does anyone come out to check your home?
I live in a rented property and I am single with no children and work full time. Do I have to inform my employer?
Have checked my contract and no mention of bancrupcy in it and I dont deal with money at all in my job.
Sorry for all the questions just want to get things straight in my head. Dont want to have any nasy surprises afterwards finding it all really hard to cope with as it is
Thanks

    Hi

I have a similar problem to you regarding my pets I too have quite hefty insurance premiums - my dog had cancer so can't really change providers. When I posted up my SOA here I was advised to leave in exactly what I paid out but it would be up to individual OR as to whether you could have it or not as you may have to make up the shortfall from any surplus if you have it.

I also know that you can put down an amount for holidays so to be honest if I was not allowed the full amount for my pets I would forego something like a holiday to pay out for the pets. Sorry not much help really

Re: your car someone will be along to help you wth that soon.

Good luck and ask as many questions as you need to - just sorry I can't be a bit more helpful

  • If you need your car for work and there is no alternative public transport than they will allow you to keep it, up to a value of around 2k so you are fine on the value just make sure you put your case across regarding your shifts etc..

Not sure on pet insurance, I think I just absorbed it into another area eg. housekeeping, but again try, each OR is different on what they will and won't allow - which is terribly unhelpful I know.

Nobody comes to your home and general furniture and household appliances are exempt. They did try and take our bike though as we were keeping the car!.

No need to inform your employer unless you work in some of the financial fields (banking/financial planner) where it is part of your contract to inform them if you go bankrupt.

They will however inform your landlord. We advised ours beforehand and they were fine about it. Although we have a BR clause in our contract they were happy for us to stay as long as we continued to pay on time etc..

Hope that helps a bit. It is really scary and you will have lots of questions, we are just two weeks away from discharge and although traumatic it was the best thing we could have done and it gave us our lives back.

They do allow you to claim for vets fees on your SOA, I think it is up to around £25 per month. Any more than that would have to come out of your surplus if you had any.

Thanks for replys so far and sorry to be a pain with so many questions. I keep having nightmares about people coming and taking away furniture etc.

My main worries are car and pets. I have not had a holiday for years and dont go to dentist or opticians etc becaus i cant afford it.

My debts are mainly from living expences and car repairs etc I have not got much to show for it.
I had a change of circumstances and like a lot of people find themselves in a mess.
Dont want credit again just want to get out of the mess Im in. Feel really frightend and ashamed too.

Ah I know it all seems so scarey and I know had lots of sleepless nights (and probably got more to come)

With regards to my pets - i have been thinking of acutally stopping my insurance and giving my sister say £50 a month instead to save for me in case of an emergency as I dont know about you but I now have a £70 excess on my policy? just not sure what the best thing to do is. Gotta love those furry babies and yes like you I would rather sacrifice things like a holiday for them.

I hope you car will be ok to.

I know it is a really horrible feeling right now, I know I feel a complete mess at times when my younger friends are all coping so sell as I think I should be old enough not to be in this mess.

Please ask as many questions as you need to there are lots of people here to help.

Thanks, my excess is 60. I dare not cancel as vets are so expensive and if they need a op or any ongoing treatment I would not be able to afford it as it easily gets in to hundreds if not thousands of pounds very quicky these days.

The car is a big worry as without it I just cant get to work simple as that. I would have to leave and go on to benifits if they took it away.

Any advice would be welcome as I just keep going round in circles.

  • Hi Callywally,

I just had my phone interview with the OR today. I have a car of £800, hubby has one of £500, we too live in a tiny village with rubbish bus service I only work 7 miles away - hubby 20 miles in other direction, OR said we can keep both cars - just stress how poop the bus service is, if you can't get to work they are going to get sweet FA from you!!
We had £14 down per month for pet insurance, she wouldn't allow this but said she would allow us a £15 contingency (which we didn't have down) so I guess every OR is different.

Hope you get the result you want x
  • Why do they tell your landlord? That was one point I had never considered. I dont have a tenancy agreement that I can breech as I rent my house off a friend. I feel sick to the pit of my stomach now. I cant face moving again if she decides she does not want to risk me being in the house any more.

I have moved 4 times in the last 5 year I cant take any more

Have thought of some other questions. are you allowed to put on soa things like AA and such that I have not got at moment but would be very usefull after bancrupcy in case of breakdowns but I can not afford now. Do you have to prove all expences.
