Bank account

At the moment I have a Halifax easy cash bank account that I opened just before I went into IVA after speaking to the national debt line they say as a lot of my debts are wit Lloyds that it would be doubtful I would be allowed to keep this account open.
So on that advice am I best opening a Co-op cashminder account now and have it up and running wages going in and dd going out before I petition for bankruptcy as it will be a few month before I can afford the fees.
How long do they freeze your account for? and will they take any money from it as I would need that to live as I have no surplus cash (please see my soa)
Welcome all advice and thanks in advance
Dee

We opened ours nearly 3 months before going BR, all DD`s and SO`s were transferred over along with our incomes, so by the time we went BR the account was running smoothly. As long as you are not in Brighton your account should not be frozen. Some people do say to empty your account before the day of BR, personally I did not and nothing was said, as long as you have not got thousands in there you will be fine.:pB&SC No. 298

Hi
I am not yet BR and in the process of sorting out lots of things but one thing I did do is open a co-op cashminder and transfer my wages and DD etc to that account sometimes you are allowed to keep that account open (someone correct me on this if I am wrong?) I may have to change my account to Barclays as Co-op are one of my creditors but I will look into that nearer the time.
The Halifax were charging me outragous charges on my current account (that I have held with them for many years) that regardless of whether I was going to go BR or not I know i needed to change banks.
I also know that you can normally (as I have read from other threads here) open a bank account with co-op or Barclays directly after you have been to court??
Sorry can't really be of much help but I've given you a bump up

Thank you, It would be a similar time span to opening to BR. So when do they actually freeze it and for how long? and why do you not get it frozen if you live in Brighton???

It was never frozen, explained to the OR that we had the account on our initial phone conversation, they just said to inform the coop that they had no interest in it. For some reason in Brighton the OR will have the account closed and you would have to open a new one, but this is only in Brighton.:pB&SC No. 298

Glad I don't live in Brighton. As dojo says I think as long as it is a "working" account and not savings of thousands then the OR will let you keep it.
I don't think it would do you any harm to get you Co-op one and up and running I had no trouble at all changing all my DD's and SO over with them and it is great as you can use the post office to pay money in and also banking on line is good.
