Life after defaulting

Hello all

Am curious about life with defaults and/or CCJs on your credit file (DMPs, late payments etc).

How does it affect getting utilities, mobile phone accounts, broadband, t.v packages etc.

Thanks

From personal experience, I have 3 defaults and am currently on a DMP, utilities shouldn't really be an issue as I have always been accepted for them however mobile phone will be as I have had trouble in the past trying to change provider. My advice would be that if you are already with one provider for any of the above, check that the people you wish to move to will accept you before cancelling your current deal. Unfortunately, I have been stuck on T-Mobile for years because it's that or a PAYG phone

    Hi all.

Just wanted to clarify that what I'm asking is not about getting trying to obtain more credit (credit cards, loans etc.) but about getting on with life while sorting out one's mess. From the threads I know that there may be problems renting and getting mortgages.

Anyone experienced any problems with the utilities and other life essentials due to having defaults or CCJs?

Hi Tygar, I have (I think) 4 defaults on my credit file and still managed to get sky in my name - although it comes off my OHs bank account. I think you should still be fine with utlities etc tho.

Thanks redkev. That's a good tip about checking before cancelling. Thought they would terminate my contract at renewal time but I'm now assuming they do not check unless you are starting a new contratc. Have you been able to switch tariffs within T-Mobile or are you not able to do that?

    Thanks

    Hi crapwithcash

Was that a requirement from sky that you have the payment come out of your OH's account or is that just a personal arrangement?

    Thanks

I've never had any trouble changing tariffs or renewing contracts and also added an extra phone (for my wife) to my account without any bother. I think issues would only arise with this if your history with the provider themselves showed missed payments, them chasing you etc.
