Update: I got a call from the woman at the bank today. She said that she had spoken to the mortgage advisor there who apparently thinks she can help. Got an appointment on the 12th at 9:00am.
If they are suggesting remortgaging I might be open to offers if it's a lower rate than I am currently on - 6.5%. However if, as I suspect, they are talking about consolidating then I think I tell them, very politely, to bog off!!PigginSkint's debt free diary

even where an adviser is FSA regulated (which they have to be) they are not allowed to actually advise you to consolidate - they can give you options but can not recommend you do it0

Yeeeech. Did you have credit problems BEFORE getting the mortgage? Cos if you didn't, that's one heck of an APR. Have a shop around.PigginSkint wrote:If they are suggesting remortgaging I might be open to offers if it's a lower rate than I am currently on - 6.5%.

sounds like you are on a lender's standard variable rate (SVR) rather than an actual product/rate0

No - that's the SVR isn't it?Bargain_Rzl wrote:Yeeeech. Did you have credit problems BEFORE getting the mortgage? Cos if you didn't, that's one heck of an APR. Have a shop around.
I have been thinking about shopping around but wondered whether the state of my finances - i.e. good credit score but lots of debt - would work against me. Anyone know the answer to this one?PigginSkint's debt free diary

I have had 2 similar 'meetings' with my LloydsTSB personal advisor. I was informed that my wife had insufficient life insurance to cover our outgoings should the worst happen!!! It is re-assuring that you have been given some helpful advice especially if it has made you think how you are shuffling your debts around. Are you actually reducing your debts by doing this or just covering each months payments ? Take a couple of days to think through if you need to significantly change the way you manage your finances0
