Hi, for my daughter's first birthday we got her this, it's £10 more than your budget but is really good, it folds down and amuses her 3 year old sister too. We got our's in Argos.

I know my Gran bought me some premium bonds for my 1st birthday but then I think you could buy smaller amounts unfortunatly now you have to spend £100.
At 1 year old they wont remember, and everyone buys them gifts that get used for 10 minutes and never see the light of day again. I've seen living rooms full of toys on christmas day and birthdays for babies and they prefer to play with the box that the TV came in.
Peter rabit stuff is valuble? I hope it is I have a bowl, cup set from when I was born 27ish years ago I wonder what thats worth.
I think some kind of investment is the best idea the kid will really apreciate an amount of money later in life 18 or 21 they will be able to buy the latest 30TB ipod with 21" widescreen or somthing they want. you could add to the funds each birthday if your ever short of ideas, and if your child is ever given money for birthdays they could put the in the investment if they wanted to rather than waste it like I did on occasions.0 -

Go to your baby's cupboard/box of toys. Take an item out and wrap it up in some old wrapping paper. Put the parcel in a a box and wrap it again.
Make or buy a nice little cake with a candle to blow out.
Save the thirty pounds for when baby (and You) really need it.
