Direct Debit madness

About 2 years ago, aol (my service provider) offered me increased mcaffee internet security at £2.49 via direct debit. Over a year ago i cancelled it, but in january this year, someone had set up a direct debit to continue this payment without my consent, and get this, according to my bank, apparently this is perfectly legal.

Having made numerous phone calls to aol broadband, mcaffee and my bank, i now find out that aol broadband is not the same company as aol uk ltd, they split up about a year ago, and the phone number for aol uk ltd is out of order.

Co-incidently, aol broadband tried to blag £15 off me in december (too long a story). If you're with aol and they contact you, make sure you ask them if they're aol bb or aol uk ltd.

Anyone have similar problems?

Just cancel the direct debit and demand a refund from your bank under the direct debit guarantee.

  • I cancelled it, the bank say they can get me a refund if i can get aol uk ltd to admit their mistake, only ive got 3 different aol uk numbers that don't find a ring tone, and even if i was to get my money back, that wouldn't stop them doing it again, and again, and again, thats the madness of it, no matter how many times i cancel it.

WOW Oh my gosh i have just sent this to AOL It follows !
This is a complaint, i had this anti virus on my PC for less than a few months this has been years ago no longer have it we use clamwin ...i have just called Moneyway whom pay my bills to find you are still taking the money for this and have done for years when i told them 'today' to stop paying you they said that cannot because it would also cancel my aol payment she said this means aol are calling for the £2.49 a month, she said this has been going on years please stop calling for money that you shouldn't be taking else we will cancel our aol account and thats something we do not want to do
When we call in person they seem too pass the blame on to Macaffee and say its them, yet Moneyway say it comes from the same account number as my aol ..
So get any info pass it on please !
:oAutism isn't the end of the world just a journey to another one:)

You really need to write to them recorded delivery (do not phone) and tell them what has happened and if possible get a Subject Access request from them to see why this was reset up. Also when writing to complain to them you can also tell them you are requesting all the information they hold on you.

This may get them to refund you.
