Hi Eric,
Just thought that I would say what I know about the situation with your job, I recently went bankrupt and my ded works for the Met police.
During my chats with him regarding my bankruptcy, I did say about "good job I dont work for the Met", and he said that he knows quite a few police officers that have CCJ's against them and some are also bankrupt.
I would not try and beat yourself up too much about getting the sack etc, the only time I honestly think they would do that if you were having dodgy dealings in your past and fraud etc was involved.
The debts have been accrued through reasons beyond your control and so I personally would go ahead if you feel that it is the best thing to do for you and your family, and then have a chat with your supervisor/inspector to get theie views.
Hope that helps a little ease your worries hun, but hey unfortunately I do not work there personally, so honestly can only pass on what info I have heard from someone that does.

I'm afraid i have no idea what a SOA is (i may be being dim, long day!) but i'd be happy to oblige if someone could let me know?
Hi
An SOA is your statement of affairs, list of your income, expenditure, assets and debts.
Here is a link to one widely used on here.

The policy is there to protect the public, Police Officers are people just like everyone else and, just like everyone else, they are mostly good honest people. Sadly there are some who abuse thier position because they're on a power trip and there are also others who may feel tempted to abuse thier position for financial gain... in other words, "we know you're skint but if you give us information, we'll give you a bung" that kind of thing. That's why cases are immediately investigated by professional standards.
A Police Officer holds a public office, we serve the people and have to be above reproach if we're to be taken seriously, just like Government Ministers...ahem.
I can understand the policy and the reasons behind it although i don't fully agree with it but such is life. I remain seriously concerned although i have received information during the course of the day that has helped ease some of my worries but there is still a 'what if' hanging in the air.
I've been in the job for a little over ten years and absolutely love my role, if i was forced out because of something as trivial as money i'd be destroyed but rules are rules, i can't magic money out of thin air and circumstances have combined to put me here, such is life i guess. Here's hoping it sorts itself out.
If their is any justice, you should be fine, I really do hope you keep your job,
as you say you love your work and have been in force for 10 years, it is now time for them, who ever they are to support you, like you have supported the public, sometimes not appreciated, but I am one who support officers like you who make our place save to live in.
Good luck mate and all best0 -
